Affiliate Terminology and Glossary – A

Above the Fold:
The area on a browser window that displays the content of the website page without a need to ‘SCROLL DOWN.’ This area of your blog or website page will usually provide a higher click thru rate then ‘below the fold’.

Adware:
As an affiliate I strongly suggest staying AWAY from adware also known as “spyware,”. Awdare is a program concealed within free downloaded software that acts as spy robot in your computer transmitting user information through the Internet to advertisers. Often creating pop ups and hijacking a users web browser. Most reputable affiliate programs do NOT allow affiliates to use adware to promote a program.

Affiliate:
An affiliate may or may not be a Web site owner who promotes a merchant’s products or services on a commission or Cost Per Actions basis earning a commission for clicks, leads, or sales.

Affiliate Agreement:
This is legal document containing terms that govern the affiliation between a merchant and an affiliate. As an affiliate you need to be aware of the agreements you hold with both the affiliate network and the affiliate merchant.

Affiliate Program:
Each Affiliate Merchant’s offers individual programs, created to promote their product or service on a cost per action basis to a group of affiliates through an affiliate platform/software program or affiliate solution provider.

Affiliate Program Directory:
A directory listing individual affiliate programs

Affiliate Manager / Affiliate Program Manager:
An affiliate manager manages affiliate programs by helping affiliates generate sales, track purchases and send commission, among other activities.

Affiliate Solution Provider:
The company that provides the software solution to run an affiliate program

Affiliate Link (or affiliate url):
A piece of code residing in a graphic image or landing page URL placed on an affiliate’s web page that notifies the merchant that an affiliate should be credited for the customer or visitor sent to their web site.

Autoresponder:
An autoresponder is a computer program that automatically answers e-mail sent to it. They can be very simple or quite complex sending multiple emails with delays between each.
